Von Willebrand disorder (VWD) is a disorder of blood coagulation. It has similarities with haemophilia but with some important differences which are described in this article. Ideally, treatment should be in specialist centres. By knowing the prevalence and clinical manifestations of VWD, nurses working outside these specialist areas may help many more people to be correctly diagnosed.
