Summary

Gestational hyperlipidemic pancreatitis can occur in pregnant women without prior high lipid history. Close monitoring of serum lipid levels is essential during pregnancy for early detection and management.

Observation:

  • A 27-year-old pregnant woman presented with severe hypertriglyceridemia (5500 mg/dl), nausea, and abdominal pain.
  • The patient had no prior history of hyperlipidemia before pregnancy.

Findings:

  • Diagnosis of acute gestational hyperlipidemic pancreatitis was established.
  • The patient successfully underwent pancreatic drainage and Caesarean section.

Implications:

  • Gestational hyperlipidemic pancreatitis can manifest in pregnant women without pre-existing hyperlipidemia.
