Abstract:
The present paper is concerned with the importance of braces and orthotic devices for the treatment of functional deficits of the lateral ankle ligaments. After a short description of the different categories, the various areas of application are described. Finally, the effects of these orthopaedic devices with respect to joint stabilisation, injury prevention, and the influence on proprioception and sports performance are discussed based on research reports.
