Summary

Macular light sensitivity (MLS) is significantly reduced in both anisometropic and ametropic amblyopia in children. This suggests visual pathway defects and may indicate different causes for monocular versus binocular amblyopia.

  • To investigate macular light sensitivity (MLS) and relative afferent pupillary defect (RAPD) in children with anisometropic and ametropic amblyopia.

Summary:

  • Static perimetry revealed significantly depressed MLS in anisometropic and ametropic amblyopic eyes compared to controls.
  • The fellow eyes of anisometropic amblyopic subjects also showed reduced MLS.
  • Relative afferent pupillary defect (RAPD) was observed in 34.29% of anisometropic amblyopic cases.

Impact:

  • Findings suggest MLS depression indicates a visual X-channel defect in amblyopia.
