    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate smoking patterns among male high school students.
    • To identify motivations and factors associated with adolescent smoking.
    • To provide effective information for student smokers.

    Main Methods:

    • A survey was conducted among 250 male high school students in Tae-Jŏn.
    • Data was collected from July 10th to 15th, 1995.
    • Statistical analysis was used to present the findings.

    • 52.1% of student smokers started due to curiosity; 41.4% smoke variably.
    • Smoking is linked to lower academic performance and dissatisfaction with school life.
