Summary

Advanced prostate cancer can block ureters. A novel antegrade percutaneous ureteroneocystostomy technique successfully treated a patient when standard ureteral stenting failed, offering a new treatment option.

Background:

  • Advanced prostate carcinoma obstructs the ureteral orifice in 10% of patients.
  • Standard ureteral stent placement may fail in complex cases.

Observation:

  • A patient with advanced prostate carcinoma experienced failed ureteral stent placement.
  • Antegrade percutaneous ureteroneocystostomy using the Lawson retrograde nephrostomy set was performed.

Findings:

  • The antegrade percutaneous ureteroneocystostomy with a double-J stent remained functional for 2 years post-procedure.
  • No decrease in anastomosis caliber was observed after stent removal at 8 months.

Implications:

  • This technique offers a viable alternative for managing ureteral obstruction in advanced prostate cancer.
  • Percutaneous antegrade ureteroneocystostomy provides a new therapeutic option for challenging cases.
