Abstract:
The physiology of swallowing has been extensively investigated by a number of researchers with the use of various techniques. These studies contributed greatly to our understanding of human deglutition. However, in order to provide better treatment to the patients with swallowing disorders, certain areas of swallowing need further research and/or objective measures to quantify data. This article discusses the controllable aspects of the swallowing evaluation, including the materials to be given to the patients and the measures useful in diagnosis and treatment of swallowing disorders.
