Lipid peroxidation in proliferative vitreoretinopathies

- SOD and CAT activities were significantly lower in PVR and PDR groups than in controls (p < 0.0010).
Conclusions:
- Fibrovascular proliferative vitreoretinopathies are associated with increased free radical formation.
- Reduced antioxidant activity (SOD and CAT) is observed in the vitreous of patients with PVR and PDR.
- These findings highlight the role of oxidative stress in the pathogenesis of these retinal conditions.
