Summary

High plasma lipids, particularly oxidized ones, impair artery function in middle-aged men. This study links elevated total cholesterol and triglycerides to reduced endothelium-dependent vasodilation, suggesting a key role in atherosclerosis development.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the influence of plasma lipid levels and lipoprotein oxidation on endothelial function in middle-aged men.
  • To correlate serum lipid profiles and oxidation markers with endothelial function parameters.

Main Methods:

  • High-resolution ultrasound measured radial artery diameter to assess functional and relative vasodilation reserve (FVDR).
  • Blood samples analyzed for total cholesterol (TCH), HDL, triglycerides (Tg), malondialdehyde (MDA), and superoxide dismutase (SOD).
