Background:

  • Cephaloceles, particularly parietal and occipital types, are congenital abnormalities.
  • Abnormal venous drainage patterns have been observed in association with cephaloceles.

Observation:

  • Seven parietal and three occipital cephaloceles with abnormal venous drainage were analyzed.
  • In parietal cephaloceles, an aberrant vein (straight sinus) drained into the superior sagittal sinus below the defect.
  • Occipital cephaloceles showed the straight sinus draining superiorly into the confluence above the defect.

Findings:

  • The superior sagittal sinus and confluence were positioned unusually high in relation to the cephaloceles.
