Abstract:

The first part of the article presents a brief history and the present stand of dental CAD/CAM systems. The three basic components--scanning, design (CAD) and milling (CAM)--of such systems are described. Their advantages and disadvantages against conventional dental techniques are presented also. One of the most serious shortcomings of these "high-tech" systems is their impossibility to produce dynamic occlusal surfaces.
