Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To define and characterize pregnancy rhinitis.
  • To investigate physiological variations in nasal obstruction during pregnancy.

  • Daily subjective scores and nasal/oral peak expiratory flow were recorded in 23 pregnancies.
  • Data collection extended from gestation through 1 month postpartum.

  • Subjective nasal congestion scores were higher in early and late pregnancy compared to postpartum.
  • Objective nasal blockage increased in only 8 women, while 9 unexpectedly showed decreased blockage.
