Psychogenic stress, like prolonged noise or foot-shock, causes genotoxic damage, increasing Sister Chromatid Exchanges (SCEs) and Chromosome Aberrations (CAs) in rats. Hormonal pathways were not implicated in this stress-induced DNA damage.
