Summary

Tick-borne ehrlichiosis, including human monocytic ehrlichiosis (HME) and human granulocytic ehrlichiosis (HGE), is underreported in the US. Surveillance improved, leading to a sharp increase in reported cases from 1994 to 1997.

Background:
