Summary

Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) is a promising technique for vulvar cancer staging. This study found SLNB feasible with no major morbidity, detecting nodal metastasis in one case.

Background:

  • Inguinofemoral lymphadenectomy is standard but associated with significant morbidity.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the feasibility and safety of SLNB in vulvar cancer.
  • To assess the accuracy of SLNB in detecting lymph node metastasis.

  • SLNB was performed in 8 patients with vulvar malignancy (6 squamous cell carcinomas, 2 melanomas).
  • Detection methods included patent blue dye, lymphoscintigraphy with a gamma probe, or combined techniques.
