The synthetic antioxidant 1-O-hexyl-2,3,5-trimethylhydroquinone (HTHQ) significantly inhibits heterocyclic amine (HCA)-induced rat carcinogenesis, particularly liver and mammary tumors. Its chemopreventive effect is attributed to reduced metabolic activation of HCAs, not antioxidant activity.
