Summary

Cervicogenic headache (CH) patients show higher levels of Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1 beta) and Tumour Necrosis Factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) compared to migraine patients. These inflammatory markers suggest distinct pathophysiological mechanisms in CH.

Background:

  • Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1 beta) and Tumour Necrosis Factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) are key mediators of cellular inflammation.
  • Cervicogenic headache (CH) and cluster headache (CH) are primary headache disorders with potential inflammatory links.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the cytokine profile of cervicogenic headache (CH) patients.
  • To determine if CH exhibits an inflammatory status similar to cluster headache.
  • To compare cytokine levels in CH patients with migraine without aura (MWA) and healthy controls.

Main Methods:

  • Serum levels of IL-1 beta and TNF-alpha were measured using ELISA and bioassay.
  • 15 CH patients, 15 MWA patients, and 15 healthy controls were included.
