Factor XIII deficiency in two Melanesian families from Papua New Guinea

Three patients from two families in Papua New Guinea with a deficiency of Factor XIII activity are described. Lowered levels of Factor XIII activity were found in the parents of both families. Simple screening tests for Factor XIII deficiency should be included in all coagulation screening tests, even in a developing country.
