Summary

Chronic autoimmune thyroiditis can cause temporary thyroid dysfunction and reversible changes in thyroid echogenicity. Follow-up ultrasound may predict transient hypothyroidism in autoimmune thyroid disease.

  • The hypoechogenic thyroid gland normalized with functional recovery.
  • Diffuse low echogenicity in autoimmune thyroid disorders can be reversible.
  • Transient hypothyroidism associated with autoimmune thyroiditis was noted.
