Background:

  • Donegal, a rural area, faces challenges with general practices located far from district hospitals.
  • The Donegal Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Project supplied 50 Life Support Kits to General Practitioners (GPs) in 1995.
  • Training was provided to GPs on the use of these essential medical kits.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the utilization frequency of items within the Basic Life Support kits.
  • To identify the types and locations of medical incidents where kits were employed.
  • To evaluate the impact of kit usage on patient outcomes.

  • A retrospective questionnaire survey was conducted among 49 participating GPs.
  • Data was collected on 208 patient incidents attended by 46 doctors.
