Forward bending is the best position for comfortable urination, promoting pelvic floor relaxation. Straining during urination increases flow rate but reduces voiding time.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the impact of pelvic posture and straining on urinary flow parameters in healthy women.
  • To identify the most favorable position for relaxed and efficient urination.

Main Methods:

  • 21 healthy women underwent uroflowmetry in five randomized positions: anteversion, anteversion with straining, retroversion, retroversion with straining, and forward bending.
  • Urinary flow parameters including volume, peak flow, and total time were analyzed.
  • Voiding curve morphology was assessed for irregularities.

  • Straining significantly increased peak and mean flow rates but decreased total voiding time across all positions.

Conclusions:

  • The forward-bending position is recommended for urination to facilitate pelvic floor muscle relaxation.
  • While straining enhances flow rate, it may compromise complete voiding and increase voiding time.
