Ambulatory urodynamic monitoring helps diagnose urinary symptoms when standard tests fail, especially in men over 40. It identifies surgically correctable causes in about 20% of these patients.

Background:

  • Ambulatory urodynamic monitoring (AUM) offers an alternative for complex cases.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the utility of AUM in men unable to void during VCUG.
  • To identify potential causes of urinary symptoms in this patient group.

Main Methods:

  • 40 men with voiding difficulties on VCUG underwent AUM.
  • Solid-state transducers and a portable recorder were used.
  • Patients voided privately into a specialized flow meter.

Main Results:

  • Diagnostic data were obtained in over 90% of AUM procedures.
