Moderate-high intensity exercise training after myocardial infarction: effect on left ventricular remodeling

Exercise training after myocardial infarction did not negatively impact left ventricle (LV) remodeling in patients with small infarcts. Remodeling is variable and depends on infarct and LV size.

Purpose of the Study:

- Exercise training did not significantly alter LV endocardial surface area-to-body surface area (ESAi) or percent abnormal wall motion (%AWM).
- No significant changes in LV size or infarct size were observed in the control group.
- Initial ESAi and %AWM were predictors of subsequent changes in ESAi.

- Exercise training did not adversely affect LV remodeling in patients with predominantly small myocardial infarcts.
- Left ventricle (LV) remodeling post-MI is heterogeneous.
- Remodeling appears to be related to infarct size and LV size.
