Bilateral eosinophilic granuloma of the mandible

A case of extensive bilateral eosinophilic granuloma of the mandible has been reported. The pertinent clinical features have been emphasized and difficulties in diagnosis have been discussed. The case highlights the problem that faces the surgeon and pathologist when there is a superimposed chronic osteomyelitis. If the lesion had been limited to the left side of the mandible and if the possibility of eosinophilic granuloma had not been raised on histologic grounds at the time of original exploration, then a correct diagnosis might not have been reached.
