Enhanced polymorphonuclear neutrophil (PMN) infiltration after lipopolysaccharide (LPS) priming paradoxically reduced ischemic brain injury, brain edema, and vascular damage in rats. These findings challenge the view that PMN infiltration is always detrimental after stroke.
