Abstract:
Prevalence was studied of asthma and wheezing among children residing in Kiev 13 to 14 and 6 to 7 years old, with n = 400 in each of the above age groups using standardized ISAAC protocols. Wheezing was detected in 25.5% of children in the 13-14 group and in 29.3% of those in the 6-7 group. 93.2 percent were children catching frequently recurrent respiratory 30.7% of children ages 6-7 and 31.3% of those 13 to 14 years old had asthma, i.e., one-third of the children with wheezing, with bronchial hyperresponsiveness having been recorded in 56.6 percent of the 6-7 age group and in 70.2 percent of the 13-14 group. With aging enhancement of bronchial hyperresponsiveness tends to become persistent remaining at the level of moderately severe disturbances in bronchopulmonary ventilation actually against the background of treatment.
