Area of Science:

  • Ophthalmology
  • Medical Imaging

Background:

  • Idiopathic sclerochoroidal calcification (ISC) is a rare, benign posterior segment disorder.
  • Clinical diagnosis involves differentiating ISC from choroidal tumors and inflammatory conditions.

Observation:

  • A 61-year-old male presented with bilateral multifocal choroidal tumors.
  • Fundoscopy revealed yellow lesions near the superotemporal arcade in both eyes.

Findings:

  • Fluorescein angiography demonstrated late staining of choroidal lesions.
  • Ultrasonography confirmed highly reflective sclerochoroidal placoid lesions.
  • Serum calcium and phosphate levels were normal.

Implications:

  • Idiopathic sclerochoroidal calcification is a rare echographical differential diagnosis for choroidal osteoma.
