Pulmonary function testing is an essential component in the diagnosis and monitoring of the pediatric asthmatic. Very young children are capable of performing spirometry, lung Volumes, airway mechanics, and other testing. Obtaining valid test results in children is dependent on multiple factors including equipment selection, environment, technologist training and competence level, and the child's developmental age.
