Summary

Paraneoplastic lichen planus can cause cicatrizing conjunctivitis. This condition may also present with inflammatory skin and mucous membrane disease, affecting multiple sites.

Background:

  • Cicatrizing conjunctivitis is a severe form of conjunctival inflammation.
  • Paraneoplastic syndromes involve immune responses to cancer.
  • Lichen planus is a T-cell-mediated inflammatory condition affecting skin and mucous membranes.

Observation:

  • Two patients presented with bilateral red eyes and discomfort.
  • Case 1: A 63-year-old woman with lymphoma developed cicatrizing conjunctivitis, stomatitis, vulvitis, and skin lesions.
  • Case 2: A 25-year-old man with thymoma had cicatrizing conjunctivitis, erosive stomatitis, and penile papules.

Findings:

  • Histopathology confirmed lichen planus in conjunctival, skin, and oral biopsies.
  • The conjunctival findings were consistent with cicatrizing conjunctivitis.
