Background:

  • Keratoconus (KC) diagnosis often involves high myopia and irregular astigmatism.
  • Corneal scarring and astigmatism in KC typically reduce best-corrected spectacle acuity.
  • Rigid gas-permeable contact lenses are commonly used to improve vision in KC patients.

Observation:

  • This report details two clinically diagnosed KC cases with exceptionally good unaided visual acuities (20/25+).
  • Both eyes of the patients presented with better-than-expected uncorrected vision.

Findings:

  • The study found that excellent unaided visual acuity can coexist with a keratoconus diagnosis.
  • This suggests that not all KC patients experience significant vision loss without correction.
