Area of Science:

  • Gynecologic Pathology
  • Vascular Tumors

Background:

  • Ovarian hemangiomas are exceptionally rare neoplasms.
  • They are often asymptomatic and discovered incidentally.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To report a rare case of an asymptomatic ovarian hemangioma.
  • To characterize its immunohistochemical profile.

Main Methods:

  • Case report of a 32-year-old patient.
  • Histopathological examination of biopsy specimen.
  • Immunohistochemical analysis for Factor VIII, smooth muscle actin, estrogen, and progesterone receptors.

Main Results:

  • An incidental finding of a left ovarian hemangioma.
  • Positive expression for Factor VIII and smooth muscle actin.
  • Negative expression for estrogen and progesterone receptors.

Conclusions:

  • Ovarian hemangiomas, though rare, should be considered in the differential diagnosis of ovarian masses.
  • Immunohistochemistry aids in the characterization and diagnosis of these tumors.
