Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the long-term effectiveness of SCS using laminectomy-style electrodes versus percutaneously implanted electrodes.
  • To evaluate pain reduction and patient outcomes based on electrode implantation method.

Main Methods:

  • A cohort of 41 patients received SCS trials with temporary electrodes.
  • Permanent systems were implanted if trial stimulation achieved >50% pain reduction.
  • Long-term follow-up (median 34 months) assessed pain via Visual Analog Scale and an outcome scale.

  • Laminectomy-placed thoracic electrodes demonstrate significantly better long-term effectiveness for SCS compared to percutaneous placement.
