Identification of the cultivable bacteria in dental plaque from the beagle dog

Abstract:
Fifteen different genera of microorganisms were isolated from the 27-month-old plaque of two beagle dogs. They were as follows: Pseudomonas, Proteus, Neisseria, Escherichia, Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Lactobacillus, Nocardia, Actinomyces, Corynebacterium, Micrococcus, Microbacterium, Brevibacterium, Arthrobacter, and Kurthia. The dog plaque was characterized by a low number of streptococci and the presence of several noncarbohydrate-fermenting organisms.
