    Background:

    • Baroreflexes are crucial for heart rate control.
    • Limited data exists on baroreflex influence on atrioventricular conduction.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the effect of baroreceptor activation on atrioventricular conduction.
    • To differentiate baroreflex effects on the sinoatrial node versus the atrioventricular node.

    Main Methods:

    • 11 healthy subjects underwent drug-induced alterations in mean arterial pressure (MAP).
    • Measurements included MAP, R-R interval, and His bundle intervals (A-H, H-V).
    • Atrial pacing was used to maintain constant R-R intervals.

    Main Results:

    • Increased MAP lengthened R-R intervals; decreased MAP shortened R-R intervals.
    • A-H intervals changed significantly with MAP changes when R-R was fixed by pacing.
    • H-V intervals remained unaffected by baroreceptor activation.

    Conclusions:

    • Baroreceptor activation strongly influences the atrioventricular node, not the ventricular conduction system.
    • This effect is observable on the atrioventricular node when sinoatrial node influence is controlled.
