[A salivary cyst and parotitis]

Background:

• Parotid gland tumors can present with varied clinical manifestations.
• Cystic lesions of the parotid gland are uncommon but require thorough evaluation.
• Parotiditis can sometimes be associated with neoplastic or cystic processes.

Observation:

• A case of upper left genital tumefaction with protracted development is presented.
• The tumefaction was found to be caused by a cystic lesion of the masseteric lobule of the left parotid gland.
• The patient had a background history of parotiditis.

Findings:

• The cystic lesion of the parotid gland was the underlying cause of the genital tumefaction.
• Complete surgical excision of the parotid gland (total parotidectomy) was performed.
• The facial nerve was successfully conserved during the surgical procedure.

Implications:

• This case highlights an unusual presentation of a parotid gland cystic lesion.
• Total parotidectomy with facial nerve preservation is an effective treatment.
• Understanding the pathogenetic, clinical, and therapeutic aspects is crucial for managing such rare conditions.
