[Glycyphagus cadaverum housedust mites--a powerful source of allergens in Uzbekistan]
Abstract:
The house-dust mites, Glycyphagus cadaverum (Schrk.) and Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (Trt.) are prevalent species in the houses of Uzbekistan. Their prevalence rates are 57.8 and 28.5%, respectively. G. cadaverum was detected in 62. 13% of the houses. It numbered as many as 1013 per g of dust. The tick, house dust and feeding media were extracted and allergic reactions to the extracts were examined by three immunological assays: passive hemagglutination test, indirect degranulation test, and common anaphylactic reaction: The study demonstrated that the extract from G. cadaverum had a higher allergenic potency, which is commonly used in Uzbekistan for the diagnosis of asthma.
Insights
House-dust mites, Glycyphagus cadaverum and Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus, are common in Uzbekistan. Glycyphagus cadaverum extracts show higher allergenic potency, aiding asthma diagnosis.
Area of Science:
- Allergen research
- Immunology
- Entomology
Context:
- House-dust mites are prevalent in Uzbekistan.
- Glycyphagus cadaverum and Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus are the dominant species.
- High mite infestation levels were recorded.
Purpose:
- To investigate the prevalence of house-dust mites in Uzbekistan.
- To evaluate the allergenic potency of G. cadaverum and D. pteronyssinus extracts.
- To assess the utility of mite extracts in diagnosing asthma.
Summary:
- Glycyphagus cadaverum (57.8%) and Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (28.5%) are prevalent house-dust mites in Uzbekistan.
- G. cadaverum was found in 62.13% of homes, with up to 1013 mites per gram of dust.
- Extracts from G. cadaverum demonstrated significantly higher allergenic potency compared to D. pteronyssinus.
Impact:
- The findings highlight G. cadaverum as a major allergen in Uzbekistan.
- This research supports the use of G. cadaverum extracts for improved asthma diagnosis.
- Contributes to understanding mite-induced allergies in Central Asia.
