This study developed an information system (IS) to enhance community nursing (CN) practice and research. The system supports efficient workflows, integrated care, and data exchange, aligning Slovenian nursing with EU standards using the International Classification of Nursing Practice (ICNP).
Area of Science:
- Health Informatics
- Nursing Science
- Information Systems
Background:
- Community nursing (CN) practice requires robust support systems for efficiency and research.
- Standardization of nursing concepts and terminology is crucial for integrated care and data exchange within the EU.
Purpose of the Study:
- To develop and test an information system (IS) tailored for community nursing (CN).
- To enhance CN practice, promote research, and align Slovenian nursing terminology with EU standards.
- To integrate the International Classification of Nursing Practice (ICNP) into the Slovene healthcare system.
Main Methods:
- Analysis of core community nursing (CN) processes and principal functions.
- Design of a logical data model and user interface for the IS.
- Emphasis on practical testing, user training, and the implementation of the translated ICNP.
Main Results:
- The developed IS is designed to increase work efficiency in CN.
- The system facilitates a process-oriented nursing doctrine and supports integrated patient treatment.
- The IS enables data comparison and exchange, harmonizing Slovene terminology with EU standards via ICNP.
Conclusions:
- The new information system effectively supports community nursing (CN) practice and research.
- The integration of ICNP promotes standardized terminology and data interoperability within Slovenia and the EU.
- The developed IS enhances efficiency and facilitates a more integrated approach to patient care.
