Background:

Hysterectomy is a common major surgical procedure.
Dysfunctional uterine bleeding necessitates alternative treatments.
Hysteroscopic endometrial ablation has emerged as an effective therapy.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate hysteroscopic endometrial ablation as an alternative to hysterectomy for dysfunctional uterine bleeding.
To compare the outcomes of hysteroscopic surgery with hysterectomy.

Main Methods:

Prospective randomized trials were conducted.
Comparison between hysteroscopic endometrial ablation and hysterectomy.

Main Results:

Hysteroscopic surgery demonstrated shorter operating times, fewer complications, and reduced analgesic requirements.
Patients undergoing hysteroscopic procedures experienced faster resumption of normal activities and work.
Psychological and social functioning improved with no significant differences compared to hysterectomy.
Women undergoing hysterectomy reported higher satisfaction rates.

Conclusions:

Hysteroscopic endometrial ablation is an effective and less invasive treatment for dysfunctional uterine bleeding.
While hysteroscopic ablation offers significant advantages, hysterectomy may lead to higher patient satisfaction.
Non-hysteroscopic ablative techniques are under development and require further evaluation.
