Summary

Ethanol consumption causes liver lesions, particularly an increase in liver cell triglycerides, even with acute intoxication. Histological examination in rats revealed damage concentrated in the hepatic lobule periphery with blood vessel dilation.

Area of Science:

  • Toxicology
  • Hepatology
  • Histopathology

Context:

  • Ethanol is a widely consumed substance with known hepatotoxic effects.
  • Individual responses to ethanol vary based on species, administration route, and genetics.
  • Liver damage is a significant public health concern associated with alcohol use.

Purpose:

  • To investigate the histological effects of ethanol on the liver in an experimental model.
  • To identify specific cellular and tissue alterations induced by ethanol intoxication.

Summary:

  • Adult male Wistar rats were used to assess ethanol-induced hepatic lesions via histological examination.
  • Results indicated an increase in liver cell triglycerides during acute ethanol intoxication.
  • Affected cells were primarily located in the periphery of the hepatic lobule, accompanied by blood vessel dilation.
