Area of Science:

  • Health Informatics
  • Medical Classification Systems
  • Primary Care Research

Background:

  • The International Classification of Primary Care, Version 2 (ICPC-2) was published in 1998.
  • Errors and inconsistencies were identified during the translation and electronic preparation of ICPC-2, particularly in Chapter 10.
  • Significant issues were noted in the conversion between ICPC-2 and ICD-10, posing risks for electronic patient records.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To create a corrected electronic version of Chapter 10 of ICPC-2, named ICPC-2-E.
  • To publish ICPC-2-E on the Oxford University Press website as part of a research article.
  • To provide a reliable resource for electronic health records and research applications.

Main Methods:

  • Systematic review and correction of errors and inconsistencies within ICPC-2 Chapter 10.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Focused efforts on rectifying conversion structures between ICPC-2 and ICD-10.
  • Careful checking of inclusion and exclusion criteria affected by the identified errors.
  • Main Results:

    • Development of ICPC-2-E, an accurate electronic version of ICPC-2 Chapter 10.
    • Resolution of critical errors impacting data conversion and classification accuracy.
    • Ensured consistency in inclusion and exclusion criteria for improved usability.

    Conclusions:

    • ICPC-2-E is optimized for use in electronic patient records and research.
    • The electronic version should be used in conjunction with the first nine chapters of the ICPC-2 book.
    • The ICPC-2 book remains essential for the correct application and interpretation of the classification system.
