Summary

Spontaneous contractions (SC) are common in elasmobranch blood vessels, particularly the dorsal aorta and ductus Cuvier. SC in hepatic portal veins show unique hypoxic responses and unusual KCl inhibition, suggesting novel vascular smooth muscle mechanisms.
