Area of Science:

  • Neurology
  • Infectious Diseases
  • Neurosurgery

Background:

  • Acinetobacter meningitis is a rare but serious infection.
  • Head trauma can lead to cerebrospinal fluid leaks, increasing infection risk.

Observation:

  • A patient developed Acinetobacter meningitis post-head injury with cerebrospinal fluid otorrhea.
  • No neurosurgical intervention was performed prior to meningitis onset.

Findings:

  • Acinetobacter meningitis following head injury can occur without prior neurosurgery.
  • Pefloxacin monotherapy demonstrated limited efficacy in treating this condition.

Implications:

  • Highlights the risk of meningitis after head trauma, even without surgery.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Suggests limitations of pefloxacin monotherapy for Acinetobacter meningitis.
