Area of Science:

  • Cardiology
  • Rheumatology
  • Vascular Medicine

Background:

  • Polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) is a systemic vasculitis that can affect medium-sized arteries.
  • Coronary artery involvement in PAN is uncommon, and myocardial infarction is a rare complication.

Observation:

  • A 35-year-old male patient with a history of polyarteritis nodosa presented with acute anterolateral myocardial infarction.
  • Cardiac catheterization revealed diffuse coronary artery aneurysms.

Findings:

  • The patient experienced an acute myocardial infarction.
  • Diffuse coronary artery aneurysms were identified as a complication of polyarteritis nodosa.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the importance of considering coronary artery aneurysms in patients with polyarteritis nodosa presenting with cardiac events.
  • Early diagnosis and management of coronary artery aneurysms in PAN are crucial to prevent severe cardiovascular complications.
