We describe a rare case of primary tracheal leiomyosarcoma in a 56-year-old woman. Multimodal therapy, including chemotherapy and organ-preserving surgery, achieved complete remission for this difficult-to-diagnose tumor.

Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Pathology
  • Surgery

Background:

  • Primary tracheal leiomyosarcoma is a rare and challenging diagnosis.
  • Accurate pathological classification is crucial for effective treatment planning.

Observation:

  • A 56-year-old female presented with symptoms indicative of a tracheal tumor.
  • Diagnostic imaging and biopsy confirmed a primary tracheal leiomyosarcoma.

Findings:

  • The patient underwent multimodal treatment, combining chemotherapy and organ-preserving surgery.
  • This therapeutic approach resulted in complete remission of the tumor.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the potential efficacy of multimodal therapy for rare tracheal sarcomas.
