Summary

Apoptosis, programmed cell death, is implicated in human acute pancreatitis. This study found significant acinar cell apoptosis in patients with acute pancreatitis, suggesting its role in the disease mechanism.

  • Significant acinar cell apoptosis was observed in the pancreatitis specimen.
  • No apoptotic cells were detected in the control pancreatic tissue.

Implications:

  • Apoptosis is likely a key mechanism in human acute oedematous pancreatitis.
  • Further research into the induction and function of apoptosis in pancreatitis is warranted.
