    Summary

    Normal human plasma contains a ristocetin-binding protein that inhibits platelet aggregation. This protein must be saturated with ristocetin before aggregation can occur, explaining variations in test results.

    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • Serum shows a twofold increase in this component, with further increases after heating.

    • Variations in this protein can lead to discrepancies in ristocetin-induced platelet aggregation test results.
