Summary

Tuberin expression was low in ganglioglioma cells but high in reactive astrocytes and abnormal structures. This suggests tuberin may play a role in central nervous system diseases.

Background:

  • Gangliogliomas are rare tumors containing both neuronal and glial elements.
  • Tuberin is a protein involved in cell growth and regulation, and its role in central nervous system (CNS) tumors is not fully understood.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the expression and localization of tuberin in human gangliogliomas.
  • To explore the potential role of tuberin in the pathogenesis of these tumors.

Main Methods:

  • Immunohistochemical staining was performed on neurosurgically resected ganglioglioma tissues.
  • Western blot analysis was used to quantify tuberin levels.
  • Tuberin expression was assessed in neoplastic astrocytes, neurons, eosinophilic granular bodies, and Rosenthal fibers.
