Summary

This study reports a rare case of intramuscular liposarcoma associated with multiple intramuscular lipomas, a combination not previously documented in medical literature. This finding expands understanding of liposarcoma presentations.

Background:

  • Liposarcomas are malignant tumors arising from fat cells, with various subtypes.
  • Intramuscular lipomas are benign fatty tumors occurring within skeletal muscle.

Observation:

  • A 71-year-old man presented with a large left scapular mass and two smaller masses in the right shoulder.
  • Histological examination revealed a well-differentiated liposarcoma in the left scapula and intramuscular lipomas in the right shoulder.
  • Literature review identified cases of liposarcoma with subcutaneous lipomas, but not intramuscular liposarcoma with intramuscular lipomas.

Findings:

  • This case represents the first documented instance of coexisting intramuscular liposarcoma and multiple intramuscular lipomas.
