Percutaneous techniques successfully repositioned misplaced aortic endografts in all patients. These minimally invasive methods offer a viable solution for aortic stent-graft complications.

Area of Science:

  • Vascular Surgery
  • Interventional Radiology

Background:

  • Aortic endografts are used to treat aortic aneurysms.
  • Malposition or dislocation of endografts can lead to serious complications.
  • Percutaneous techniques offer a minimally invasive approach for endograft correction.

Observation:

  • This study evaluated two percutaneous techniques for correcting endograft misplacement or dislocation.
  • Seven male patients with thoracic or infrarenal aortic endografts underwent repositioning procedures.
  • Methods included guidewire manipulation and balloon catheter use.

Findings:

  • Repositioning maneuvers were technically successful in all seven patients.
  • Endografts were moved distances ranging from 5 to 27 mm (median 7.8 mm).
  • No procedure-related complications occurred during or after the interventions.

Related Experiment Videos

Implications:

  • Nonsurgical repositioning of aortic endografts is technically feasible.
  • These techniques may reduce the need for open surgical revision.
  • Further research is needed to fully evaluate the risks and long-term outcomes.
