Summary

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) can manifest as mania, a psychiatric condition, even in its early stages. This case report shows SLE presenting with mania, emphasizing diverse lupus symptoms.

Background:

Psychiatric symptoms are common in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), often appearing later in the disease course.
Organic syndromes are the most frequent psychiatric manifestations of SLE.

Observation:

A 32-year-old woman presented with her first manic episode.
Undiagnosed Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) was discovered during her admission through physical examination and investigations.

Findings:

The patient's manic illness and physical symptoms of SLE responded rapidly to treatment.
Treatment included prednisolone for SLE and chlorpromazine for psychiatric symptoms.

Implications:

This case underscores the varied and sometimes unusual presentations of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE).
